Summary / History
HEIRLOOM - The White Habanero pepper is a rare ancient heirloom variety of the traditional orange habanero. This pepper has ancient roots which date back to the Western Hemisphere going as far back as 6,500 B.C. Completely intact pepper fragments have been unearthed in archaeological excavations in Peru. Originating in the Amazon Basin, the White Habanero pepper became substantially cultivated in Peru and the Yucatan Peninsula. Today, the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico remains the largest producer of White Habanero peppers.
Plant Characteristics
White Habanero peppers make a unique addition to any garden with their creamy white colors. Growing on sturdy 3 feet tall plants, these late maturing peppers have thin walls and are lantern-shaped. They are slightly smaller than traditional habanero peppers, only reaching about 2" in length. These peppers may lack in size, but they definitely pack a ton of heat. White Habanero peppers rate between 100,000 and 350,000 on the Scoville (SHU) scale, with the flavor described as intense heat with citrus-like undertones. This flavor profile makes it great for sauces and cooking. Offering high yields and consistent growth, these peppers are perfect for growing in garden plots, raised beds, and greenhouses.
