The La Roma IV F1 Hybrid tomato is widely favored by home gardeners and market growers for its exceptional disease resistance, heavy yields, and culinary quality. These bright red, cylindrical-shaped paste tomatoes typically weigh between 4-8 ounces each and measure roughly 4 inches in length. The flavor is described as full, sweet and rich with a deliciously balanced, classic profile. They are prized for their thick walls, hearty texture and rich flavor, making them highly sought after for making rich Italian sauces and thick homemade pastes. Their low water content makes them excellent for roasting, canning and slow-cooking. As a determinate variety, it grows to a height of 3-4 feet, produces all the tomatoes at once over a couple weeks and then dies. The plants grow into compact, manageable bushes (great for both raised beds and large containers) and produce a massive, concentrated harvest of paste tomatoes in about 70 to 75 days. Due to heavy yields, staking or using a tomato cage is highly recommended. Strong resistance to Fusarium Wilt (Races 1 & 2), Late Blight, Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV), Alternaria Stem Canker, Verticillium Wilt, Gray Leaf Spot and Root-Knot Nematodes.
